(x)Burma, Reserve Bank of India,1000 Rupees, ND (1939), serial number A/0 004868,Issued under British Administration on the eve of the Second World War, this commanding 1,000 Rupees note was produced by the Reserve Bank of India for circulation in Burma, then still part of British India. The design, centred on the portrait of King George VI, is framed by intricate Indo-Burman ornamentation and balanced by a magnificent tiger vignette on the reverse, one of the most admired motifs of the George VI series. The inclusion of Burmese script distinguishes these notes from those prepared for use in India, reflecting their specific regional purpose and limited issue.When Burma separated from India in 1947, this denomination represented a substantial fortune, and most holders understandably sought to redeem their notes before the two monetary systems were divided. Very few escaped redemption, and the remaining circulated notes were later withdrawn and destroyed. Their near disappearance marked the end of a shared currency between India and Burma.
