Government of India,1 Rupee, 1917, serial number S/43 309904, issued on 2nd January 1918 and standardised on 9th November 1918, these banknotes were printed in England on white handmade paper. The obverse showcases an intricate red rosette with the inscription "Government of India" above it. The denomination is numerically represented in the top right corner and in the top left corner is an illustration of a 1-Rupee coin featuring the portrait of King George V; a staple of the British colonial period. The reverse of the coin can be seen on the reverse of the note, stating the denomination surrounded by an ornate border. Additionally, the reverse showcases the official cipher of King George V, G.R.I 'Gergius Rex Imperator,' positioned in the top left corner. In the centre, a language panel presents eight Indian languages—Urdu, Kaithi, Bangla, Burmese, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Gujarati—highlighting the cultural diversity of the Indian subcontinent. The note bears the signature of H. Denning, one of only two signatures accompanying the prefix ‘S’ on these notes (Pick 1c, BNB 135, Jhun&Rez 3.1.3),in PMG holder 64 Choice Uncirculated, only 1 note in higher grade at PMG
