PMG Very Fine 20.Under British rule, which began after the Third Anglo-Burmese War in 1885, Burma was incorporated into British India and subjected to new administrative and economic policies. The British focused on resource extraction and infrastructure development, often at the expense of local traditions and well-being. For its currency, notes of the same design as India were used, but issued at Rangoon. They are listed separately from India under Burma. This 5 Rupees is dated 1905 and signed by H.J. Brereton. Collected independently of the notes from British India, those issued in Burma are typically much scarcer. This example has some rust damage but still retains good visual appeal, and is one of just two such notes that are present in the PMG population report.
