Description

Distinctive 1924 SpecimenPORTUGUESE INDIA. Banco Nacional Ultramarino. 2 1/2 Rupias, 1.1.1924. P-24s. Jhun&Rez 12.14.1. Specimen. PMG Choice Uncirculated 63.The next denomination of the series, again in specimen format. The 2 1/2 Rupias shared the same design as the 1 Rupia but with the colors in a more muted brown and yellow. Around the same time that these were printed, in the 1920s, Portuguese India saw the expansion of the railway line linking Mormugão with the British Indian network. This improvement allowed for more efficient transportation of goods and passengers, strengthening commercial connections beyond the colony's borders. The enhanced rail and port infrastructure positioned Portuguese India as a transit hub despite its small geographic and economic scale. Like the others in this set, this note is seen with mounting remnants, but it also has retained completely original paper. PMG comments "Previously Mounted."Estimate: $4,000 - $6,000.
