Description

PORTUGUESE INDIA. Banco Nacional Ultramarino. 10 Rupias, 1.1.1924. P-26s. Jhun&Rez 12.16.1. Specimen. PMG Choice Uncirculated 63.The next denomination, with the same design as the last, but printed in a vibrant purple color. In the past few lots, we have looked at the history of Portuguese India, focusing on the 1920s. In the same decade, small-scale manufacturing grew in importance, particularly in coconut oil production and cashew shelling. These industries were largely artisanal, relying on local labor and traditional techniques rather than mechanized processes. While their output was limited, they added value to local agricultural products and contributed to the colony's export economy. Notes such as this provided an important medium of exchange, but of course, with a restricted size and small population, print totals remained small. PMG comments "Previously Mounted."Estimate: $3,000 - $5,000.
