Description

Much Nicer than Typically SeenFRENCH INDIA. Banque de l'Indochine. 5 Roupies, ND (1945). P-5b. Jhun&Rez 13.2.2. PMG Choice Very Fine 35.The second variety of this type which was issued in 1945. A scarce type that is seldom found at this grade level. While a few pieces grade finer, they are tightly held, as collectors have long sought this type in better grades. At the time that this entered circulation, French India consisted of several small enclaves along the southeastern coast of the Indian subcontinent, including Pondicherry, Karaikal, Mahé, Yanam, and Chandernagore. Although British India was on the cusp of independence, French India remained under French colonial administration, although it did experience growing nationalist sentiment among its native population. PMG Comments "Pinholes."Estimate: $2,500 - $4,000.
