This note was salvaged from the wreck of the S.S. Egypt, which sank on May 20th, 1922 after a collision with S.S. Seine. The Egypt carried a valuable cargo of gold and silver, so salvage efforts were immediately underway to recover her treasure. The wreck was not located until 1930, and she lay in 400-500 feet of water, making salvage operations difficult due to the technology at the time. Roughly 98% of the contents of the strong room were recovered by 1935. This note was recovered in 1932 by the Italian salvage vessel Artiglio. A purple stamp is on the face detailing the history of the note. PMG comments "Rust, Paper Damage."Estimate: $2,000 - $3,000.
