Description

British India, 1860, Watermark Paper of Queen Victoria, 10 Rupees, Portal Archives, New Design Variant – with Word ‘RUES’, Thin Paper Type. This archival print showcases a revised design with the addition of the word ‘RUES’ (a likely abbreviation for ‘Rupees’) appearing beside ‘RUPEES’ at the bottom panel— a distinctive and uncommon variation . The layout remains classic, with ‘GOVERNMENT OF INDIA’ at the top , and denomination expressed in both numerals and text within rectangular panels . Printed on thin paper , it also carries the printed signatures of James Wilson and Lord Canning . The lower corner bears the archival annotation ‘3E’ , confirming its classification within the Portal Paper Archives as a significant specimen of early watermark banknote experimentation, holdered by PMG, Extremely Rare.
