Description

Republic India, 1959, 10 Rupees, HAJ Issue, Signed by H.V.R. Iyengar, A Inset, HA Prefix, S. No. HA 056620, Value in English only, (KJ & RR # 6.13.1.1), pin holes, stains, annotation, graded by PMG as 25 Very Fine, Exceedingly Rare. Note: “HAJ” is printed on either side of “RESERVE BANK OF INDIA” at the center. In an effort to regulate Exchange Control, the Reserve Bank of India issued banknotes, prefixed "HA", for pilgrims travelling to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, for the Haj and after conversion, these were returned to the Reserve Bank of India, who would then exchange them with the Saudi Monetary Agency. Some circulation stains and graffiti can be noticed on this specimen. Still intact in its original form as when issued, it is in better quality than many other examples of this variety. This is a very important lot.
