Government of India, 10 Rupees, uniface, dated 8 August 1892, Calcutta Circle, serial no. V/83 15197, signed by Stephen Jacob. J&R 2A.2.1A.8, Pick A7g. A Queen Victoria-era uniface ten of the first design group (1867-1901): GOVERNMENT OF INDIA in a scalloped panel at the head, the serial repeated at the upper corners, the engraved promise 'Promise to pay the Bearer on Demand the Sum of TEN Rupees', the value in four vernacular script panels of language panel type 1, RUPEES 10 in ornamental vertical side panels, and the place and date rendered twice as '1892 Aug. 8 Calcutta 8 Aug. 1892'; FOR THE GOVERNMENT OF INDIA above the signature of Stephen Jacob as Comptroller of Paper Currency, with the reverse plain as issued. J&R records the prefixes V and X for the Stephen Jacob Calcutta notes. Holes and tears, but a rare survivor of the period.
