Hindostan is the anglicized spelling of Hindustan, the Persian term for India. The Bank of Hindostan operated in the Bengal Presidency via its headquarters in Calcutta. This higher denomination type note is extremely rare, as evidenced by its list of "firsts". This example is the first to be graded by PMG, and it is the first example that we have had the privledge to auction. Notice that is is a Remainder without serial numbers, signatures, and a date. There is evidence of usage, although thankfully most details remain visible, including the pretty engraving of a resting Tiger at front. Lightened rust is mentioned for accuracy. Bank of Hindostan notes are very rare today, as they only issued notes in the early 19th century. The bank sold it assets and ceased issuance of banknotes in 1832.
