Description Rare Haj Pilgrim Issue India Reserve Bank of India 10 Rupees ND (1959) Pick R5 Jhunjhunwalla-Razack 6.13.1.1 Haj Pilgrim Note PMG Very Fine 30. In an effort to regulate Exchange Control, the Reserve Bank of India issued a family of notes, prefixed "HA", designated for pilgrims traveling to Mecca, Saudi Arabia for the Haj. Pilgrims were allowed to travel with their allotted allowance of Haj Rupees which they could then change for Saudi Arabian Riyals during the Haj. After conversion, the Rupees were returned to the Reserve Bank of India, who would then exchange them with the Saudi Monetary Agency. This is only the second example we have offered. Uncharacteristically, the example of offer is devoid of graffiti, and only has the usual pinholes noted by the grading company. This is an opportunity not to be missed for Indian, Middle Eastern, and Religious Collectors alike.
