Description

Description India Reserve Bank of India 1000 Rupees ND (1937) Pick 21a Jhunjhunwalla-Razack 4.8.1A An A/3 prefix note from the first of two prefixes for this Bombay issued number. This example looks far nicer than the PCGS Apparent Very Fine 30 grade that it received. We are able to see through the third party holder a note with far fewer folds than usual for the grade, masked rust stains that are small, repairs that close two small tears in the watermark oval, the design redrawn is minor, and the ink stamps on the back appear to be banking in nature and include two date stamps of "8 May 40." Chances of such a high denomination surviving in any condition at all were slim. This note had to weather a world war and then shortly thereafter it was demonetized in January 1946.
