Government of India, 50 Rupees, MADRAS office of issue, ND (1930), serial no. V/1 638031, signed by J. B. Taylor. J&R 3.9.2F, Pick 9l. Graded PMG 25 Very Fine (cert 8077460-001), comment 'Spindle Hole'. The King George V portrait 50 Rupees: THE GOVERNMENT OF INDIA across the head, the KGV crowned portrait in the right oval window, 'I PROMISE TO PAY THE BEARER THE SUM OF FIFTY RUPEES ON DEMAND AT ANY OFFICE OF ISSUE' at centre in a maroon guilloche frame, FIFTY and RUPEES in the lower side panels, the watermark oval at left, and MADRAS printed beneath the signature panel; the reverse carries FIFTY RUPEES in an ornamental cartouche between two blank ovals with the denomination in the vernacular scripts. Watermark: King George V. J&R assigns each office of issue its own serial block for the Taylor signature - V 1 is Madras - and the V/1 prefix on this note confirms the attribution alongside the printed office name. Very Fine, with a central vertical fold, light toning and the spindle hole original to issue from the currency office's filing.
