Government of India, 10 Rupees, uniface, dated 9 April 1901, Bombay, serial no. MA/9 09387, signed by O. T. Barrow. J&R 2A.2.1D.4, Pick A7g. Graded PMG 20 Very Fine (cert 2364625-002), comments 'Spindle Hole at Issue' and 'Paper Damage, Minor Rust'. The green-underprint uniface ten of the 1867-1901 group: GOVERNMENT OF INDIA in a chain of engraved rosettes across the head, the serial at both upper corners, the engraved promise 'Promise to pay the Bearer on Demand the Sum of TEN Rupees', the value in four vernacular script panels of language panel Type 2 - the panel used for the Bombay circle - RUPEES 10 in ornamental vertical side panels, and the place and date rendered twice as '1901 April 9 Bombay 9 April 1901'; the reverse is plain, as issued, and carries contemporary ink annotations at the right. J&R lists the prefixes W, Z, CA and MA for the Barrow Bombay tens, and MA/9 matches. This note falls in the final year of the 1867-1901 design group. Very Fine, with the spindle hole original to issue, a nick at the upper edge, the paper damage and light rust noted by PMG, and honest even toning.
