Bank of Madras, 25 Rupees, hand signed, dated 20th August 1849 of date format 184_, type 1, serial no.: 7456. Obv: BANK OF MADRAS in semi circular on top, above the Vignette of Equestrian statue of Sir Thomas Munroe, Governor of Madras. Denominations in numerals on 4 corners, Bank of Madras written on top 2 panels in English, Persian, Telugu & Tamil and Denominations written on bottom 2 panels in the same 4 languages. Printed Serial 7456 on both halves. Manuscript Signature of Secy. & Treasurer, Robert Hunter. Printed by Perkins, Bacon & Petch, London. Rev: BANK OF MADRAS in big bold fonts and Denomination in big bold words, J&R 1C.3.2.4. Full Note with no paper tapes stuck. Two “CANCELLED” chop marks below each serial numbers, Some minor stains, Exceedingly Rare. Never seen earlier as issued notes but only known to exist as Specimen Proofs.
