Bank of Madras, 100 Rupees, hand signed, dated 6th January 1860 of date format 18_ _, type 2, serial no.: 17504. Obv: BANK OF MADRAS in semi circular on top, above the Vignette of Equestrian statue of Sir Thomas Munroe, Governor of Madras. Denominations in numerals on 4 corners, Bank of Madras written on top 2 panels in English, Persian, Telugu & Tamil and Denominations written on bottom 2 panels in the same 4 languages. Printed Serial 17504 on both halves. Manuscript Signature of Secy. & Treasurer, Robert Hunter. Printed by Perkins, Bacon & Petch, London. Rev: BANK OF MADRAS in big bold fonts and Denomination in big bold words. J&R 1C.3.2.6. Full Note but paper stuck at various places of the missing note pieces on Reverse, two “CANCELLED” chop marks below each serial numbers, Some minor stains, Exceedingly Rare. Never seen earlier as issued notes but only known to exist as Specimen Proofs.
